About Claremont 

The city of Claremont is a suburban city found within the eastern end of Los Angeles County, California, U.S. The city is located about 30 miles from the eastern portion of downtown Los Angeles. As of the 2019 census, the city was known to have a population estimated to be around 36,266. The city of Claremont is actually considered one of the hidden gems in Los Angeles.

Claremont has been a winner of the National Arbor Day Association's Tree City USA award for 22 consecutive years. The city also hosts several large retirement communities, among them Pilgrim Place, the Claremont Manor, and Mt. San Antonio Gardens.

 

Claremont is well-known for the bright art and culture that it has. Each year, Claremont holds a springtime folk music festival, hosted by the Folk Music Center Store and Museum. There are also local museums that include the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology at The Webb Schools and the Benton Museum of Art at Pomona College.

The city was founded in 1887 by the Pacific Land Improvement Company, a subsidiary of the Santa Fe Railway, and it was probably named for Claremont, New Hampshire, the hometown of one of the company’s directors. The first California citrus association was formed at Claremont in 1893. The city developed as an educational center after 1889 when Pomona College (1887) moved there.
