About Lincoln Acres

The area of Lincoln Acres is considered an unincorporated community located in San Diego County, which is situated within the boundaries of the incorporated city of National City. The community has a population estimated at around 2,100. Lincoln Acres also has a fire station and library and the area relies on the San Diego County Sheriff's Department to provide police protection.
You can find many things about the neighborhood, but the first thing most people notice is the way a neighborhood looks and its particular character. One of the interesting things about it is that r the buildings all date from a certain time period and you may see some of the shop signs are in multiple languages. This particular neighborhood in National City, the Lincoln Acres neighborhood, has some outstanding things about the way it looks and its a way of life that are worth highlighting.
The community first settled during the Great Depression, mainly by farmers from the Midwest, to have small farms.
The neighborhood includes a park that features a children’s playground, basketball courts, a group picnic area, and restrooms. You can also warm up to a book at the library, or throw a gathering in the Lincoln Acres Community Room. The park can be a great place for parties or meetings with the Lincoln Acres Community Room available to host your next event. Reservable in advance, the room comes equipped with 10 tables, 45 chairs, a serving counter, a refrigerator, a stove, two sinks, and a microwave.
The community of Lincoln Acres was first settled during the Great Depression, mainly by farmers from the Midwest, to have small farms, and was indeed, named after Abraham Lincoln. Over time the farms became residential homes, and the population became mostly Mexican Americans.
In the year 1967, there was an unsuccessful attempt to annex Lincoln Acres into National City for zoning and sewer system purposes and later on, in the year 1981, the community was officially regarded as a potential location for adult businesses displaced by the redevelopment of downtown National City to relocate.
The neighborhood also has the La Vista Cemetery which is a large plot of land that has a large section that is considered an endowed cemetery, meaning money is set aside for regular maintenance and upkeep, and a non-endowed side, known as Rest Haven, where no money is set aside for maintenance, and therefore the families of those buried there are responsible for maintaining their grave sites.
